1. Gralis (Trumpoji str. 10)
The romance of ancient times was the inspiration behind the creation of this lovely Kaunas restaurant. Gralis offers European cuisine in which Italian dishes have a very special place. There are four halls located on two floors and the restaurant can seat up to 350 people during banquets or other celebrations. In the summertime, you can enjoy unique views of nature from the terrace.
2. Senieji rūsiai (Vilniaus str. 34)
A fine-looking restaurant inside a glorious vaulted brick cellar in the OldTown, Senieji rūsiai hasfood that takes its cue from Lithuanian and international recipes with plenty of grilled meat, big salads, fish and some truly epic desserts. The service is refreshingly attentive, plus there’s a cigar room, occasional live piano music and a wine menu featuring some 120 wines from all over the world.
3. In Tilsit (Vytauto av. 32)
A stylish interior with some fine old photographs of the fabled town Tilsit, together with the restaurant’s cosy and calm surroundings, lovely park views, European cuisine with German touches and pleasant and attentive service – all of this is what makes In Tilsit so delightful. 4. Avilys (Vilniaus str. 34)
Avilys not only brews its own beer; it cooks with it as well. The beer is unfiltered and made from natural products with no chemical additives whatsoever. The traditional brewing process ensures that the beer is of the highest quality and tastes perfect, even when used in cooking. As a consequence, this restaurant is famous for serving beer-based dishes such as soups and desserts and is proving to be a great attraction for guests and beer-lovers alike.
5. Papa Jazz (Savanorių av. 178)
This jazzy restaurant and music club offers fun evenings in a cosy atmosphere with cool lounge-style music. Papa Jazz serves up European dishes and also boasts a broad wine menu. The restaurant’s spacious hall offers a clear view of the stage, while 140 seats at the tables and comfortable armchairs for bigger groups are always at your convenience.
6. Svarstykles (T. Masiulio str. 18E)
If you value originality, a homely atmosphere and great cuisine, Svarstyklės comes highly recommended. Its chefs offer delicious dishes prepared from seafood and fish, juicy Brazilian beef steaks and savoury rabbit dishes. Then there’s the fireplace, wood-fired all year round, inviting you to savour coal-roasted chicken, lamb, pork, beef and fish. Every weekend, visitors enjoy performances of popular music groups and festive theatre evenings.
7. Gan Bei City (Karaliaus Mindaugo av. 49, Islandijos str. 32)
The GanBeiCity network of restaurants has made a big impact in Lithuania, settling successfully in its cities’ largest shopping centres. A unique symbiosis of Chinese cuisine and Japanese sushi-bar food with a stylish interior design ensures that the menu offers more than 200 dishes – the basic traditional dishes of two great cultures – plus an assortment of hot and cold snacks and an array of all kinds of drinks.
8. Berneliu smukle (K. Donelaičio str. 11)
According to many of Kaunas’ visitors, this is the warmest, cosiest and most peaceful place in the whole city. It seems that the restaurant has inherited this good spirit from the antique shop that once operated in this building. The special atmosphere was treasured and cherished by the owner of the restaurant, who has collected together household items from the most distant places of Lithuania to suit the traditional Lithuanian cuisine. You can imagine yourself visiting your grandmother in an old Lithuanian village home. Smell the lime blossoms and other Lithuanian herbs. The homemade apple pie and cheesecake have an unforgettable taste, just as though they were made by your grandmother. Or even more delicious...
